Ten 17

Monday 26th of July I awoke to cries of "Terry's gone" from my wife.

Who the hell's Terry? I asked
The morning DJ on Ten 17 my wife replied, he's gone, they've switched over to Heart it's a man and woman as DJ's now.
I couldn't believe they would get rid of Terry, he was the best radio DJ I'd heard in a long time, besides Ten 17 had been advertising his morning show in the Harlow press for ages now.
In the background I could hear an 80's record being played followed by an advert for a company based over an hour away, as I got dressed all I could hear were sounds from the 70's & 80's. I thought to myself where's today's stuff, I know I might have moaned in the past about Ten 17's play list being repetitive but at least they did play songs that were in the charts, now I'm listening to my record collection!
I waited to listen to the traffic report, nothing local, just what's happening on the A120 & M25.
The adverts were mostly national, companies that advertise on the TV as well. Yawn.
I gave up and turned the radio off.

I thought to myself, with such a wide area being covered by the new station how would they cope with local news, like the school closures last winter?
Last year the list was long enough on Ten 17 when they covered schools in Harlow, Hoddesdon, Sawbridgeworth and Bishops Stortford, now Heart Essex might have all the closed schools in the whole of Essex to announce, it could go on for ages.

For decades we had been treated to our own local Harlow radio station,Ten 17, with local news and traffic reports.
Now my quest is to find another radio station, I suppose it's a toss up between Kiss, Absolute or Capital, I suppose I'll give Capital a try, it's closer, with more local North London news.
Thanks for the memories Ten 17.
