By 1234 the church had a tower, the chaplain Ernodlus fell
to his death from it. The present tower was built about
1500.
In 1466 Sir Peter Aredene built a chantry chapel north of
the chancel and inserted his tomb in an arch cut through
the wall.
The tomb has two brasses and was once decorated with two
carved stone angels. Another brass dated about 1490 commemorates
Sir Peters daughter and husband William Harper.
The chapel suffered a fire in 1964, but has been restored
and is now used as a chapel of prayer dedicated to St Peter.
Other monuments are dedicated to the memory of the Altham
family.
