The Easter Steam Run
Every Easter for years there was a steam engine run between two pubs in the area.
There were steam engines of varying types, static agricultural, road going steam engines, vintage cars and organs plus army memorabilia.
Originally the engines ran between the John Barlycorn pub at Threashers Bush to The Green Man at Mulberry Green Old Harlow.
Then new owners took over at the John Barlycorn, the pub was renovated, the Fox at Matching Tye had a go at hosting the event.
There was a big difference between the John Barlycorn and the Fox as venues, The John Barlycorn had a large tarmac car park to put the steam engines on, the army exhibition was on the grass opposite the pub, with the car park in a field about a hundred metres away.
The Fox had a large field behind the pub where even more static agricultural working steam engines were displayed together with a small fun fair, plus the army exhibition.
The tarmac area at the Fox was slightly smaller and possibly more difficult to maneuver the larger road going steam engines.
Traveling with the Engines was a fire engine from Old Harlow manned by volunteers, this became a problem at the Fox, it tried to park up on the field behind the pub only to find it was stuck in the mud.

The photos on this page are from the John Barlycorn pub at Threashers Bush
I cannot remember what year it was, I do remember it was very cold, arctic winds were blowing sub zero temperatures, the best place to be was on a steam engine or in the pub!
There are more pages of steam photos, from the very last Harlow Easter Steam Run in 2004 between the Green Man at Mulberry Green Old Harlow and the Fox at Matching Tye, just follow the link at the bottom of the photos
