Problems
The photo part of my site has been designed and tested using Explorer 6.
I know some elements will not work with Opera or Fire Fox, I'm sorry, you will have to switch back to Explorer 6.
This site uses Java script, you will need to accept java script running to view my photos.
Photo quality
I've watched the internet speeds grow from 28k dial up, to megabytes, I've wondered what size photos to use, it looks as though 1mb will become ( or is )the standard average speed in Britain.
I've tried to shrink my photos to fit between the 56k and 1mb, the average size of my photos is now 700 by 520 at 60kb to 70kb.
Colour and Contrast
A walk in a TV shop shows you how much screens vary, banks of TV's all on the same channel all displaying different levels of contrast and colour, the chances of me getting it right with the billions of monitors on the net is slim.
Especially as most of this site is constructed in the small hours of the morning, with tired eyes and brain, I just hope I've got the majority at the right level.
People
It is my aim to blur or attempt to hide in some way peoples faces,
my reasons for doing this:The first one is simple, I don't pay anyone so I don't think I have the right to use their images / faces. The second reason, in Harlow we have a women's refuge, possibly one of the largest in the country with ten sites belonging to Harlow Women's Aid ltd. I do not want to expose where the women and children have moved to.
If people are performing, i.e. Pop Concerts / Town Show, then I will show the faces.
Navigation
In the new sections there are three ways to view the photos, at the top left of the page there is a text menu where you can switch between chapters of the sections and information.
There is also a photo driven menu, this will load each photo by clicking on it.
There are two other ways to view the photos, in the menu look for "Rotator" and "Main Rotator"
The "Rotator" will rotate the photos in a chapter.
The "Main Rotator" will rotate through all of the photos in the section. The photos are set to rotate at 20 second intervals, as the photos are not preloaded you will see a slight pause even at 1mb speeds.
My suggestion for viewing my photos use the "main rotator"
if you have time. It's my intention to add extra photos to the "main rotator" .
To be honest if you are using a dial up connection it might be time for a cup of tea / coffee while the opening page loads, (new section) or of course you could read the blurb, that's what it's there for really, to give you something to do while the menu images load.
